Hypothalamo-Pituitary axis and puberty

چکیده
Puberty is a complex process that culminates in the acquisition of psychophysical maturity and reproductive capacity. This elaborate fascinating marks end childhood. Behind it lies complex, genetically mediated neuroendocrine mechanism through which gonads are activated thanks to fine balance between central inhibitory stimulating neuromodulators hormones with both peripheral action. The onset puberty involves reactivation hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal (HPG) axis, supported by initial “kiss” kisspeptin hypothalamic neurons secrete GnRH (the “pulse generator”). pulsatile production followed rise LH and, consequently, gonadal steroids. varies naturally individuals, especially males females, latter whom typically earlier. However, pathological variations, namely precocious delayed puberty, also possible. article reviews scientific literature on physiological mechanisms main pathophysiological aspects its onset.

The hypothalamo-pituitary–gonadal axis
This review provides an outline of how our understanding of the neuroendocrine control of the hypothalamo-pituitary–gonadal axis has evolved since the publication of Geoffrey Harris’ renowned monograph in 1955. Particular attention is directed to the neurobiology underlying pulsatile GnRH release from the hypothalamus, the neuroendocrine control of ovarian cycles, puberty and seasonality of gon...
متن کاملDevelopmental Disorders of the Hypothalamo-Pituitary Axis
Short stature is defined by a height that lies <-2SDS below the mean. Recent molecular advances have led to the identification of the underlying aetiology in a number of cases that were previously believed to be “idiopathic”. This review will briefly discuss the advances in the field of pituitary development and the GH-IGF-1 axis that have led to the unravelling of the genetic basis to a number...
متن کاملSpinal and supraspinal analgesic effects of Nimodipine : The role of Hypothalamo-Pituitary-Adrenal(HPA) axis .
Nimodipine, an L-type calcium channel blocker, can induce analgesia. However, it is not clear that this analgesic effect is at the level of spinal or supraspinal pain pathway. In addition, it has been reported that the analgesic effect of nifedipine, another L-type calcium channel blocker is related to the HPA axis, but there is no report indicating the role of this axis in the analgesic eff...
متن کاملTachykinins and the hypothalamo-pituitary-gonadal axis: An update.
Tachykinins play a critical role in neuroendocrine regulation of reproduction. The best known members of the family are substance P (SP), neurokinin A and neurokinin B. Tachykinins mediate their biological actions through three G protein-coupled receptors, named NK1, NK2, and NK3. SP was suggested to play an important role in the ovulatory process in mammals and humans. Recent findings suggest ...
متن کاملStudy of hypothalamo pituitary adrenal axis in frail elderly subjects.
BACKGROUND Frail elderly people are at increased risk of death and disability from minor environmental stresses such as infection because they do not have the reserves to respond and maintain adequate homeostasis Studies have shown that elderly patients had a significantly smaller response to ACTH stimulation test. Due to paucity of data regarding HPA axis functioning in frail elderly in Indian...
